Kilpauk doc murder: Med forum raises doubts
CHENNAI: Punching holes in the police investigation of the murder of doctor S Sathya, a postgraduate student of Kilpauk Medical College killed on August 20, secretary (central zone) of the Doctors’ Forum for Peoples Health Dr C Karunakaran said there are many unanswered questions surrounding the police theory.
The Kilpauk police summoned Dr Karunakaran, part of the team that performed Sathya’s autopsy, to inquire about the case on Wednesday.

Police had on August 24 arrested Harintham Debnath, a BTech graduate, and claimed to have solved the case.
According to Dr Karunakaran, police claimed they arrested Harintham on August 22. However, the court remand records showed that he was nabbed on August 24, four days after the murder. “Harintham was dropped by one Kumar at the Kilpauk police station. However, police records don’t have the name of this person. Police should reveal about Kumar and his involvement in the case,” he said.
Dr Karunakaran said police had claimed that Sathya was sexually harassed before the murder. However, there were no signs of rape on her body. “Police have found the knife used to kill Sathya. But it does not have any fingerprints. Police alleged that the room was air-conditioned and that was the reason there were no fingerprints it. This is not acceptable,” Dr Karunakaran said.
His lawyer, Arul, said the police are not probing the case properly. “They are trying to close the case in a haste,” he said.
Sathya’s husband Dr Seshu, who works at a primary health centre in Perambalur, also questioned the manner of the probe. “There was no mention of sexual assault on Sathya when the body was recovered from the house. Why did the police reveal a new theory suddenly?” said Seshu adding that he will approach the court seeking a fair probe.
