CHENNAI:
Kathiravan, an accused in the sensational Sankararaman muder case in Kancheepuram, was hacked to death by a four-member gang near his house in KK Nagar, Chennai, on Wednesday, police said.
Kathiravan, 40, was an associate of Appu, a key accused in the murder of Sankararaman, an ex-employee of the Kanchi mutt who was found dead in 2004.

Jayendra Saraswathi is an accused in the case.
Police said the gang came on two bikes at 7.40am and waited outside Kathiravan's house. As soon as he came out, they hacked him with sickles.
Kathiravan, a bachelor, was living in a rented house in KK Nagar. He was arrested in the Sankararaman case in 2005 after the arrest of Jayendra Saraswathi. He was out on bail.
