Kamarajar Salai stretch to be shut in morning till Republic Day

Chennai: In connection with the Jan 26 Republic Day celebrations and the rehearsal programmes on Jan 19, 21 and 23, Greater Chennai Traffic Police (GCTP) has announced traffic arrangements along Kamarajar Salai. A stretch of the road, from Gandhi Statue to War Memorial, will be closed to all vehicular traffic from 6am until the conclusion of the function or rehearsals, tentatively around 9.30am.Commercial vehicles going from Adyar towards Parry's Corner via Kamarajar Salai will be diverted at Greenways Point through RK Mutt Road, Thiruvenkadam Street, Devanathan Street, St Mary's Road, Venkatesa Agraharam Road, Dr Ranga Road, East Abiramapuram 1st Road, Ramachandra Rao Road, Luz Avenue, Amrutanjan Junction, PS Sivasamy Salai, Nilgiris Point, Music Academy, TTK Road, Gowdia Mutt Road, Royapettah High Road, GRH, Tower Clock, GP Road and Anna Salai to reach Broadway. Other vehicles following this route, including buses, will be diverted at Gandhi Statue via RK Salai, Nilgiris Point, Music Academy, TTK Road, Gowdia Mutt Road, Royapettah High Road, GRH, Tower Clock, GP Road and Anna Salai.Vehicles coming from Mylapore and Dr Radhakrishnan Road at Royapettah ‘I' Point will face restrictions, with MTC buses being diverted left towards Nilgiris, Music Academy, TTK Road, Gowdia Mutt Road, GRH and Tower Clock, while other vehicles may take left or right turns. No vehicles will be allowed beyond the Dr Natesan Road–Avvai Shanmugam Salai junction, Dr Besant Road–Dr Kamarajar Salai junction, Bharathi Salai–Bells Road junction and Wallajah Road–Bells Road junction towards Kamarajar Salai, and will be diverted via Ice House junction or Bells Road.Vehicles going from Parry's Corner to Adyar will be diverted at the RBI Subway (North) towards Raja Annamalai Mandram and then routed through Muthusamy Point, Wallajah Point, Anna Salai, Anna Statue, General Patters Road, Royapettah Tower Clock, West Cott Road, GRH, Royapettah High Road, Ajanta Junction, Lloyds Road (VP Raman Road), Justice Jambulingam Street and RK Salai.The Anna Square bus terminus will be temporarily shifted to Chintadripet Railway Station during the restricted hours. Vehicles will not be permitted to enter Flag Staff House Road from Wallajah Point towards War Memorial.
