Haasan is also the president of the Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) political party, which he started in 2018.

"Such accolades, given by the people and recognised by esteemed colleagues and admirers, has always been humbling and I have been genuinely moved by your love in conferring it upon me," Haasan said in a statement.

He believes artists should not be placed above their art form. He wants to focus on improving and learning. Haasan requested his fans, film colleagues, the media, and the public to use his name.

Haasan emphasized that cinema is a collaborative effort, more significant than any individual. He sees himself as a student of the art form.
