Kallakurichi: Five YouTubers, summoned by the special investigation wing probing the violence after the death of a Class XII girl student in a private school in Kallakurichi, appeared before the wing officials for inquiries on Thursday.
Kallakurichi cybercrime police registered cases against the five YouTubers on charges of spreading rumours, provoking people to riot and to commit offences and disturbing public peace and tranquillity by inciting violence against any class of people and transmitting obscene material in electronic form. The case was later transferred to the special investigation wing.
The five YouTuber, who appeared for inquiries, were identified as R Naveenkumar, 28 from Pallapatti, Salem district, M Vadivel, 38 from Samundipuram, Tiruppur district, R Mohamed Shabi, 32 from Chennai, J Gopinath, 22 from Sivaganga district and P Rajesh, 21 from Chengalpet district. They were sent after preliminary inquiries with an instruction to appear again when summoned.
It may be recalled that Srimathi, a Class XII student in Sakthi matriculation higher secondary school in Kallakurichi district was found dead under mysterious circumstances in the campus on July 13. The incident sparked widespread violence in which private and public properties were damaged by angry mobs. The student’s death case was transferred to CBCID while the school violence case to the special investigation wing.
