Kadhir Anand is DMK candidate for Vellore Lok Sabha constituency byelection

CHENNAI: DMK retained

Kadhir Anand

as its candidate for the

Vellore Lok Sabha constituency byelection

to be held on August 5.

Anand is the son of

DMK treasurer S Duraimurugan

and incidentally was the party candidate from the constituency when the election was rescinded by the Election Commission on April 16 on charges of corruption.

"Kadhir Anand will be the party candidate for the

Vellore byelection

," said DMK president M K Stalin in a press release issued on Saturday.

Nominations for the byelections begin on July 11 and last date for withdrawal of nominations is July 18. Results will be announced on August 9.

Meanwhile, a day after a special court convicted and sentenced MDMK chief Vaiko filed his nomination for the Rajya Sabha elections to be held on July 18. Vaiko was sentenced by the special court hearing cases of MPs and MLAs in a sedition case.

Along with Vaiko, DMK legal wing member P Wilson and LPF general secretary M Shanmugam also filed their nominations with assembly secretary K Srinivasan at the secretariat.
