K N Nehru inspects SWD maintenance work in city

Chennai: Municipal administration minister K N Nehru on Saturday inspected storm water drain maintenance work across the city. Addressing reporters, the minister said some of the areas received 8 cm rain in the last 24 hours but did not flood. “We are continuing with our maintenance and canal desilting work,” he said. The minister inspected Haridas Tamarai Pond located at Haridas Nagar first street, along with HR and CE minister P K Sekar Babu, mayor R Priya and deputy mayor Mahesh Kumar. He later inspected MGR canal near KK Nagar to see if the outfall points are connected and the canals are devoid of silt. “We are focusing on sewage stagnation issues and addressing sewage flow from sewers. All the metro water staff are deployed on the ground to arrest reverse flow immediately once a complaint is received,” he said.tnn
