J Jayalalithaa has filed a contempt case against CPM state secretary G Ramakrishnan for allegedly making defamatory remarks against her in a recent article published in an English daily.
City public prosecutor M L Jegan filed the contempt petition on behalf of the chief minister in the principal sessions court here on Friday.
In his petition, Jegan said a statement made by Ramakrishnan in the article was “highly defamatory and malicious and it harmed the reputation” of the chief minister.
The article was published on July 22.
The chief minister also filed two defamation cases against the editor and the publisher of a Tamil daily for publishing “defamatory articles” against state transport minister.
In the petitions, the minister said that the daily published two news items with an intention of maligning the government. The matter mentioned in the articles was false and published with the intention of defaming the image of the government, said the petition.
