“Tamil Nadu is being given the step-motherly treatment by the Centre on various issues, be it on the Cauvery water dispute with Karnataka, extending relief in the wake of Cyclone Vardah, drought relief and now jallikattu. The AIADMK government has been ineffective in upholding the rights of the state. To condemn the central and state governments, the DMK will block trains across the state on Friday,” said DMK working president M K Stalin in a statement.

He asked all party cadres to participate in the

protests

in large numbers. “The BJP government does not see any electoral advantage for itself in Tamil Nadu and therefore is not conceding what is due to the state,” alleged Stalin.

The DMK leader also criticised chief minister O Panneerselvam for not heeding to suggestions that he should take along with him representatives of all parties during his meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “The chief minister has not come out with any statement or responded to the demands on convening a special assembly session to discuss the jallikattu issue or calling for an all-party meeting on the issue. The government is totally incapable of handling any issue,” Stalin said.
