CHENNAI: Two years after floating a political outfit, Deepa Jayakumar, niece of former chief minister J Jayalalithaa, on Tuesday announced that she was quitting politics. She termed her experience in politics to be “disappointing.” “It is very difficult to sustain as a woman politician,” she told reporters here.
She came into the limelight after the death of Jayalalithaa in December 2016, when she alleged that she was denied access to the hospital.

“There is no chance of me returning to politics. Women need space and freedom in any profession. As a woman, I have been targeted and abused with constant messages and comments. Coming from an orthodox family, I am not able to take it anymore.
They crossed all limits,”
Deepa said, justifying her social media post condemning her trolls in foul language. She had merged her outfit, MGR Amma Deepa Peravai with the AIADMK in March, though no official event took place.
Deepa said that she joined politics on compulsion. “I have better things to do in life. I thought of doing some good work for the people but could not function freely. Many resort to wrong practices in politics for survival, which I am not in agreement with,” she said, adding that her outfit had taken a different path and many betrayed and cheated her.
