CHENNAI: In a move to strengthen the coastal security along the eastern coastline, the Indian Coast Guard has commissioned a station on the Puducherry - Tamil Nadu coastline, near Karakkal, on Wednesday. Senior coast guard officials said the new station will monitor the possible smuggling and infiltration in the region.
The director general of Indian Coast Guard vice admiral M P Muralidharan commissioned the station near Karakkal port.

Muralidharan said the coordination of various security agencies needs to be strengthened in the coastal security and maritime safety and coast guard is taking all possible measures to keep a tab on the maritime activities and vessel movements in the region.
The new station will be controlled by the eastern region of Indian Coast Guard based in Chennai. P R Lochen has been appointed as the commandant of new station.
