India-China faceoff: Tamil Nadu governor donates Rs 20 lakh to Havildar K Palani’s widow

CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu governor Banwarilal Purohit on Tuesday donated Rs 20 lakh to

Havildar K Palani

’s family. Palani was among 20 Indian Army personnel who died in a bloody faceoff with the People’s Liberation Army of China at Galwan in Ladakh last week.

“Brave heart Palani has made all Indians proud. As a token of gratitude to his supreme sacrifice, Purohit has given Rs 20 lakh from his discretionary grant to Palani’s spouse,” stated a press release from Raj Bhavan.

“Palani attained martyrdom while in line of duty in Galwan Valley. He had served the Indian Army and nation for the past twenty-two years,” the release said.

Major Ajay P S Rathore, ADC to governor, handed over the cheque to Palani’s widow Vanathi Devi at her residence in Ramanathapuram district.

“The

also requested people of Tamil Nadu to help the family and urged the youth to join the Army and make our country proud,” the release added.
