CHENNAI: Income tax (I-T) sleuths on Tuesday raided properties and office premises linked to four real estate companies in and around the city.
According to sources in the income tax department, raids were carried out simultaneously in about 40 places.
The offices were in Guindy, ECR, Anna Nagar, Manali, and Iyyapanthangal in the city.
And in Sriperumpudur, Kancheepuram and Vellore. I-T officials did not allow staff of the realtors to enter the premises.
The raids are being conducted based on information about large-scale tax evasion, officials said.
More than 100 officials from the department have been deployed.
An income tax official said that the raids would continue on Wednesday too.
