CHENNAI: A 21-year-old college student died in a road accident near Guindy after the car he was travelling in rammed a median. Three others, including the driver, escaped with injuries.
According to the Guindy traffic investigation wing police, the deceased was identified as Shreyas Gupta, a student at a private college in Potheri. Police said that around 11:45 pm on Saturday, Sahil Kumar, 19, was driving towards Potheri from Besant Nagar beach. Three other people Harsha, 18, Aryan, 19, and Shreyas were in the car. As the car crossed Guindy, Sahil lost control of the vehicle and smashed into a median. Shreyas, who was riding in the front passenger seat, sustained severe head injuries. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he succumbed to injuries.
Police have registered a case of causing death due to negligence and are investigating. Police suspect the driver to have dozed off and lost control.
