CHENNAI: A day after a hostel inmate died of cardiac arrest, nearly 2,000 IIT-Madras students took out a rally on Monday to draw the attention of the authorities to the need for better emergency care.
M Ragavendra, a third- year BTech student, died on Sunday after celebrating his birthday the previous night. He suffered a cardiac arrest and was rushed to the institute’s hospital.

A student who took part in the rally said if the hospital was better prepared for emergencies and if the ambulance had a trained attendant, Ragavendra could have been saved.
