CHENNAI: Customs officers at Chennai airport have arrested a man for smuggling hydroponic ganja worth Rs 3.6 crore from Thailand.
Based on the intelligence shared by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), customs officers intercepted the passenger. His check-in luggage was thoroughly searched, and several packets containing greenish substance in lumpy form were recovered.
Since the substance tested positive for cannabis, the drug was seized and the passenger was arrested.
This is the third seizure of hydroponic ganja at Chennai airport in the last one month. On Dec 16, a man was arrested for smuggling 7.6kg of hydroponic ganja. On Nov 21, a woman was arrested for smuggling 2.8kg of hydroponic ganja of various hybrid varieties from Thailand.
