CHENNAI: A 25-year-old Navy officer died after a cricket ball hit him in the chest during a game with other personnel at INS Adyar near

. An LMER rank officer, Jogindher Singh, of Rajasthan, joined the force in 2013 and got married only four months ago.

Police investigations revealed that he was deployed on INS Car Nicobar. Police said the ship is anchored at Chennai Port and the personnel were accommodated at INS Adyar.

Police said the incident happened around 4.30pm on Thursday when Jogindher and other personnel, Vivek, 26, Kamal, 21, and Viswa Kumar, 22, were playing cricket. "Vivek was bowling and Joginder was batting. A ball hit Joginder's chest and he fell unconscious," police said. His co-workers rushed him to a Navy hospital nearby. On the advice of the doctors there, Jogindher was moved to the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital where he was declared brought dead.

A case under Section 174 of CrPC (unnatural death) has been registered.
