Chennai: The Madras high court has directed the prison authorities to respond to a plea seeking a report on the present health condition of self-styled godman Shiv Shankar who has been detained in Puzhal prison in connection with a sexual harassment case.
Justice A D Jagadish Chandira passed the order on a plea moved by the accused’s sister Jayalakshmi Ganapathy.
She also wanted the court to permit medical treatment for the accused in a private hospital at his own expense.
According to the petitioner, her brother has got serious medical ailments including blood clots in brain.
She further claimed that at present his health is in a precarious condition and hence he needs specialised treatment which is not available in the government prison hospital.
