MADURAI: The Madurai bench of the Madras high court on Monday ordered the Tirunelveli collector to consider a plea to stop the Thamirabarani river water supply to all industrial units in the district.
The division bench of justices T S Sivagnanam and P Velmurugan passed this order on a petition filed by S P Muthuraman of Tiruneveli.
The petitioner said the river flows into Tuticorin district where its collector had stopped supply of river water to industries in view of the water shortage.

“The petitioner says there has been a severe water scarcity in the Tirunelveli district. Hence, he seeks to stop supply of water to industrial units in the Tirunelveli district too. It is a serious issue. The court doesn’t want to keep the matter pending. Why don’t you consider the representation in that regard?” the bench said.
The government side replied okay.
Following this, the court directed the district collector to consider the petitioner’s representation.
