What was the trigger for you to write a book
and why now?I have always been fond of writing.I maintained a diary when I was a child and had all the happenings jotted down. When my friends asked me to blog, I thought why not write a book. People may be interested in knowing what it would take to be Rajini's daughter.Was it usual or unusual, normal or abnormal? I thought I will break all the myths surrounding our lives. My growing up years were very simple and as conventional as others. My memoir touches upon all the aspects of my life.
'Standing On An Apple Box' is an intriguing title. What does it mean?The first chapter of my book, which runs to more than 200 pages, explains the title. You need to find out by reading it. There is a purpose to everyone's life. Since I am Rajini's daughter and Dhanush's wife, people may think why she is even bothered to work hard. But I want to stand out, make a name for myself. I have been sur rounded by overshadowing and overpowerin people. I do not want to shop an spend the rest of my life partying Trivialities of life do not give me an pleasure. Actually , through the book I have explained how I have learned from my mistakes.
When are you releasing it?I am a voracious reader and that has helped me write. I have experienced writer's block as well and since I was travelling with my dad to the US, I had to stop and restart.Some days writing flows like a stream and there are times I get stuck. I am planning to release the book on my dad's birthday, December 12, so fingers crossed. I am actually racing against my deadline.
Has Rajinikanth or Dhanush read the chapters? How different is it from screenplay writing?No, but my father always knew I had a passion for writing. He is a very encouraging father. When I turned 18, I told my dad that I want to visit a discotheque and he made it happen. In fact, this portion figures in one of the chapters. One might think I don't need permission as we are all branded as pampered and spoiled but it's quiet the contrary . I do not take off to Bali or Cambodia with friends. I am an introvert and like to be in my comfort zone.
Screenplay writing is fiction, suited for movie audiences but a book like this one needs to be a truth teller.
What is your opinion of Indian diplomat Eenam Gambhir? Did you hear about her bold UN speech?As a nominated UN ambassado for women's empowerment, it really feels good that a woman has pre sented herself with such in timidating confidence. Bold women can never go wrong.
Even though the speech has been drafted by others, it takes courage and confidence to present it at the forum.
