The

Greater Chennai Corporation

will be giving the junction a green makeover at a cost of 1 crore, under Singara Chennai 2.0 project. This apart, the 38

pillars

at the newly built Koyambedu

flyover

will be given a facelift.

The junction will get a touch of landscaping, walking area, native trees and a park for kids. The centre junction will get LED lights, apart from benches for people.

S Babjee, the architect who prepared the proposal for the corporation, said since the roundabout has good visibility, an advertisement space has been proposed too, to help the civic body generate

revenue

. “Walkways, benches and play equipment for kids will help make the place buzz with activity," he said. He added that they were also planning to set up murals representing the culture of Chennai, and possibly a Singara Chennai nameboard.

The roundabout has an entrance from the Poonamalle High Road. The corporation plans to remove all encroachments obstructing the entrance to the park. Some of the plants proposed to be set up by the corporation in the upcoming park are Syngonium, Phyllodendron Ceylon Gold, Pandanus Gold and Aerca Palm.

Corporation commissioner Gagandeep Singh Bedi said with the landscaping and fountains, the place will look beautiful overall. "The centre medians right from Kathipara junction to the Koyambedu junction will be greened as well. We are also undertaking painting of the pillars," he said.

He said the corporation has already begun putting biomined earth on the centre medians on the 100 feet road.
