A computerized math lab, free breakfast, Olympiad coaching, besides sports facilities for

chess

and

table tennis

are some of the free facilities available for students at Government Girls High School in T Nagar, the advertisement highlights.

“Sports uniform, stationery, shoes, socks, handwriting notebook are provided free of cost to students,” the advertisement says. It lists the reasons why parents should choose the school for their daughters.

The school also offers a library, free medical check-up, wide and varied curriculum, and hygienic atmosphere for learning.

But the school’s location, next to the South Usman Road flyover, poses a problem as the area remains surrounded by vendors and shoppers through the day. Though it has

infrastructure

for accommodating more than 400 students, currently the school has barely 70 students.

“This school was established in 1962 but I took charge in 2012. Every academic year since then, except 2017-18, cent percent pass rate has been recorded. With the best of faculty and facilities, our students have been doing well over the years, but the number of enrolments has come down,” said headmistress P Padma, adding with the growth of the shopping hub around South Usman Road, the school was barely visible.

“To reach out to more people, I have started sending the digital version of the flyer through social media channels. I am looking for donors to print flyers and be able to reach more people. This is an initiative to increase admissions to the school,” she said.

“Everything about the school is good but I personally come to pick up and drop my girl as I am worried about her safety in this crowded place,” said a parent, who had come to pick up her daughter, a student of Class VI.
