Govt doctors to go on fasting protest over salaries

Chennai: Tamil Nadu Government Doctors association will go on a fasting protest on Thursday demanding an increase in salaries as promised in the government order issued on directions from chief minister M K Stalin in 2021. The association said it would escalate its protest and boycott work at the outpatient uniton March 29 and go on mass casual leave in the coming days if the hike is not implemented.“We have been demanding a pay hike since 2017. After multiple rounds of negotiations and under the direction of the High Court, a high-level committee suggested an incentives package for government doctors. After a huge delay and intervention from the chief minister, a government order (293) was issued on June 18, 2021. It was amongst the first orders the CM had signed. But for the last 21 months the GO has not been implemented,” said TNGDA president Dr K Senthil. Officials said the order was not implemented because a section of doctors in the service was protesting the implementation of the order.
