Four students injured after school van falls into barren land

CHENNAI: Four school students were injured after the school van they were traveling slipped from the road into a barren land. The incident happened at 7.05am when the students were traveling to Vel's Matriculation School on Thoraipakkam - Pallavaram Radial Road, near Pallavaram on Wednesday.
Police said van driver Sampath Kumar, 43, lost the control of the vehicle when he applied sudden brakes.Eye witness said a car driver had applied brakes to avoid collision with an MTC bus which got into the main road from one of the connecting roads. The van driver, who saw the car stopping ahead of him applied brakes, but lost control of the vehicle.
Four students G Sundar (11), Naveen Andrews (15), Logesh (11) and Kumar (12) sustained minor injuries in the mishap. Students were sent to a nearby hospital for treatment. Logesh and Kumar were treated as out patients. A case of rash and negligent driving was filed against the driver, who has been let off on bail.
