Four arrested for pledging fake gold

Chennai: A gang of four men was arrested for selling fake gold jewellery at a pawn shop in Red Hills and cheating the shop of 11 lakh on Monday. The arrested individuals were identified as Sridhar, Thangadurai, Isakkidurai, and Kumar.
Police said Ramakrishnan, a 48-year-old auto-rickshaw driver from Vilangadupakkam, was approached by his friend Thangadurai, a 42-year-old rickshaw driver from Ennore. Thangadurai told Ramakrishnan that four of his associates had gold jewellery they wanted to sell. Trusting his friend, Ramakrishnan agreed to help by taking the jewellery to a pawnbroker.
The broker, after evaluating the gold, offered 11 lakh in exchange. But upon closer inspection, the broker discovered the jewellery was fake and immediately alerted Ramakrishnan. Ramakrishnan then filed a complaint with Red Hills police.
With Thangadurai's help, police set up a trap to catch the suspects. The gang was apprehended when they arrived at a designated location. They were charged with cheating and frau. Further investigations are on.
