Four drown in sea off city, two washed ashore

Two people drowned off Elliot’s Beach in Besant Nagar and two other bodies, including that of a woman were washed ashore in separate incidents in the city in the last 48 hours.

CHENNAI: Two people drowned off Elliot’s Beach in Besant Nagar and two other bodies, including that of a woman were washed ashore in separate incidents in the city in the last 48 hours.
Two of the bodies are yet to be identified.
Police said Kalyan, 26, a resident of Taramani, went to Elliot’s Beach with friends on Sunday. Kalyan was engulfed by a huge tide in full view of his friends, who witnessed the incident from the shore.

They alerted some fishermen who ventured into the sea and brought him back. He was taken to a private hospital where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
In another incident, at Thiruvanmiyur, Vinod, 24, a resident of Velachery, visited the Ashtalakshmi temple on Sunday along with his family and friends. Police said Vinod drowned after he was dragged in by a huge wave.
Meanwhile, police recovered the decomposed body of a woman aged around 60 at the Thiruvanmiyur beach on Sunday. In another incident, two locals noticed the decomposed body of a man aged around 40 on the Muttukadu beach on Monday morning and alerted the Kanathur police. All the four bodies were sent to Royapettah Government Hospital for autopsy.
