Chennai: Four people were killed in three road accidents in different parts of the city and suburbs on Tuesday and Wednesday.
At Madhavaram, two men on motorbikes were run over by a truck on Tuesday as they fell on the road after colliding head-on with another two-wheeler. Police said they were riding on the wrong side of the road.
The deceased were identified as M Lakshmi Narayanan, 22, and S Kamesh, 23, of Manali.
At 5.30 pm near Kosappur junction, they were riding in the wrong direction on the 200 Feet Road towards the junction. A bike which came from the opposite direction collided head on with them. In the impact, the duo fell on the road, and were run over by a truck. They died on the spot.
Madhavaram traffic investigation police have registered a case and arrested the lorry driver, Ramalu of Andhra Pradesh.
In another accident in the wee hours of Wednesday, a 74-year-old pedestrian was fatally knocked down by a milk tanker at Mathur near Madhavaram. The deceased, Selvaraj, was on his way to a nearby tea shop when the truck carrying milk hit him from behind. He suffered severe head injuries and was rushed to a hospital where he was declared brought dead. Madhavaram traffic police have registered a case.
In another accident in Taramani on Wednesday, a 40-year-old woman was fatally knocked down by a two-wheeler. The deceased D Shakila of Taramani worked as a domestic help. At 11.30 am, she was riding her bicycle to Adyar for work. When she reached VHS hospital, a biker hit her from behind. She died on the spot.
