Four die as cars collide on Puducherry flyover
PUDUCHERRY: Four people, including a police head constable, died and three others suffered injuries when two cars they were travelling in collided with each other on a flyover at Madagadipet in Puducherry in the early hours of Monday.
The deceased have been identified as Tamil Nadu police head constable G Prabhakaran, driver V Chandran, driver N Kathiravan and B Mugilan. The injured have been identified as S Susila Prasanna, 37, of Kelampakkam in Chennai, Prabhakaran’s wife Y Anjaline and N Shiny Braisley, 12.
Police said Susila was proceeding in a car from Villupuram to Puducherry with her relatives Prabhakaran, his wife Anjaline and Shiny to visit Shiny’s mother, N Parthiba, who was undergoing treatment in Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (Jiomer). Chandran was at the wheel. When the car ascended a flyover at Madagadipet on the Villupuram-Nagapattinam National Highway around 2am, a speeding car coming from the opposite side collided head-on with it.
Chandran, Kathiravan and Mugilan died on the spot. A highway patrol team and Puducherry traffic (west) police team rushed Prabhakaran, Anjaline, Shiny and Susila to Government Medical College And Hospital in Villupuram. Prabhakaran died in the hospital.
The Puducherry traffic (west) police booked Kathiravan under various sections of BNS, BNNS, and the Motor Vehicle Act and began investigations.
