In a statement, state president of the sports and skill development cell S Amar Prasad Reddy said Sivaramakrishnan’s presence would enhance the cell.

"We firmly believe that your experience as a former Indian cricketer will greatly enhance the efforts of the sports and skill development cell. Your legacy will continue to inspire generations to come and we are honoured to have you as a valuable member of our sports cell," said Amar Prasad Reddy.

Sivaramakrishnan, who is now an active cricket commentator, joined the BJP in December 2020 before the state assembly election but remained largely inactive in the party.
