Cruise restaurant to open at Muttukadu near Chennai
CHENNAI: Imagine celebrating a special occasion while gliding on the serene backwaters of Muttukadu or enjoying a sumptuous meal surrounded by nature’s tranquility. This dream is now a reality.
Tamil Nadu’s first two-deck cruise restaurant will be inaugurated on Tuesday. However, it will only have advanced booking for events as of now.
The Rs 5crore project, a collaboration between the Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation (TTDC) and Cochin-based Grandeur Marine International, promises a unique dining experience.
"We’ve already completed trial runs and accepted pilot bookings," said Ojus Sebastian, managing partner of Grandeur Marine International.
The restaurant, set on a 125-foot-long and 25-foot-wide boat, features an airconditioned lower deck and an open-air upper deck, offering breathtaking views of the backwaters. It can accommodate up to 125 guests, making it ideal for private celebrations, conferences or a casual meal with family and friends.
It will have a total 6,000 square feet air conditioned main deck and open upper deck, rest rooms, television, DJ hall, restaurant and stage.
"We’ve designed the menu to cater to diverse tastes, including international passengers," said Sebastian.
Guests can also enjoy a three-km boat ride from the boathouse towards Old Mahabalipuram Road (OMR).
Safety is a top priority, with the boat equipped with lifeboats and firefighting equipment. The restaurant opens at 7.30am for breakfast and close7s with dinner at 11 pm.
"This cruise restaurant is not just about food; it’s an experience blending scenic beauty, modern amenities, and Tamil Nadu’s renowned hospitality. Whether it’s a birthday, anniversary or corporate event, this one-of-a-kind venue promises unforgettable memories," said a TTDC official.
