“When I took up swimming at the age of 13 years, several people raised questions and discouraged my parents. But they stood behind me and I wouldn’t have achieved anything if it was not for their hard work and support. My mother wakes up at 4.30am every day. My father has taught me to never give up. So it is special to be giving them an award today,” said A V Jayaveena, national gold medallist in swimming.
