CHENNAI: Representatives of Film Employees Federation of South India (
FEFSI
) led by its president and director R K Selvamani met Union finance minister
Nirmala Sitharaman here on Thursday. They submitted a petition to her seeking
pension
for
film industry workers
and opening an office of the Animal Welfare Board in Chennai.
“The golden jubilee celebrations of FEFSI is currently on. We are planning a grand function sometime in January and wanted to invite Prime Minister Narendra Modi and finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman for it. Hence, we called on her to personally place our request to the minister,” R K Selvamani said.
The delegation also requested the minister to favourably consider to introduce a pension scheme for film industry workers and small time actors, as being provided in Kerala. In addition, they also requested to open an office of the Animal Welfare Board in Chennai.
“Directors are finding it difficult to go to Delhi, where the Animal Welfare Board office is located, to get the mandatory certificate for not having tortured any animal, while making their film. The minister has asked us to come to Delhi on November 4 and she would personally take us to the concerned minister and help sort out this issue,” Selvamani said.
