Ex-mayor appears before CBCID team in forgery case
CHENNAI: DMK MLA and former Chennai mayor Ma Subramanian, appeared before the CBCID sleuths on Thursday for questioning in connection with the cheating and forgery case registered against him.
The case was booked based on a complaint filed by S Parthiban who had contested as an independent candidate against Ma Subramanian in the 2016 Assembly elections. He alleged that he had grabbed a government property in Guindy through false claims and fabricated documents.
On June 26, the Madras high court granted anticipatory bail to him and his wife. Subramanian, who was questioned by the CBCID officials for more than an hour, later told reporters that the case was politically motivated. “The person who has lodged a complaint against me had contested against me during the last assembly election. His petition is nothing but politically motivated,” he said.
In his complaint, Parthiban had said the DMK MLA and his wife Kalpana had illegally grabbed two plots belonging to Small Industries Development Corporation (SIDCO) in Guindy in 1996 and were residing in a three-storey building constructed there. Claiming that those two plots were originally allotted by SIDCO to S K Kannan (since dead), Parthiban alleged that fabricated documents, including a ration card and legal heir certificate were created to take the possession of land.
