NEW DELHI: The ED on Wednesday claimed to have attached properties worth over Rs 6.5 crore of Anitha R Radhakrishnan, minister for fisheries and animal husbandry in the
DMK government in
Tamil Nadu, on charges of money laundering. The attached assets include 160 acres of land and residential properties of the minister and his family members.
Radhakrishnan is accused of acquiring disproportionate assets beyond the source of his declared income.
Earlier, the anti-corruption department and the directorate of vigilance of the state government had registered an FIR against him in a disproportionate assets case. The ED later used the FIR to lodge a case under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.
"During the course of investigation the ED has provisionally attached 18 immovable properties acquired by Anitha R Radhakrishnan between 2001 and 2006 in the names of his family members," the agency claimed. The properties were purchased at a declared value of Rs 1 crore, while their market value is estimated to be around Rs 6.5 crore, the ED claimed. Further investigations are on.
