CHENNAI: The promenade at Elliot's Beach turned into a scene of carnival with art events, games for kids, food stalls and stage performances on Saturday to mark the 383rd anniversary of Madras.

The two-day festival is organised by Greater Chennai Corporation, along with Confederation of Indian Industry, to celebrate the spirit of the city. Children were seen playing hopscotch, physical snakes-and-ladders and other games, while their parents clicked photographs. Food vloggers were busy trying out various cuisines.

Keeping it fun and yet sustainable, corporation also set up stalls selling manure, while another stall has information on waste-segregation and awareness.

S Susheela, who had come all the way from Anna Nagar to Besant Nagar, said, "We saw a social media post and decided to come with our children. We were surprised by the number of games and entertainment options. Our kids are loving it and they want us to come on Sunday as well," she said. Kumara Guru, from Thoraipakkam said it was a relaxing day with his family. "It's a good effort and can be done regularly," he said.

The event was inaugurated by south Chennai MP Thamizhachi Thangapandian, along with HR and CE minister PK Sekar Babu and Chennai mayor R Priya, in the presence of GCC commisioner Gagandeep Singh Bedi and police commissioner Shankar Jiwal.
