Elephant tramples man to death near Krishnagiri
KRISHNAGIRI: A wild elephant trampled a man to death near Rayakottai in Krishnagiri district of Tamil Nadu in the early hours of Monday.
Chinnapaiyan was on his way to work around 5.30am when a lone elephant trampled him to death, a forest officer in Rayakottai range said.
His family members and neighbours heard of his death around 7am and gathered on the Rayakottai-Krishnagiri state highway, demanding action to drive the elephant back into the forest.
Police officers spoke to the protesters and assured them of swift action. The villagers agreed to disperse following the assurance.
The body was sent to Krishnagiri Government Medical College and Hospital for postmortem.
A case has been registered.
