CHENNAI: AIADMK interim general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami on Saturday accused the DMK government of chasing away investments to the tune of Rs 2 lakh crore that should have come to Tamil Nadu, due to its arrogance and indifference.

In a statement, the AIADMK leader pointed to the reports of Foxconn-Vedanta joint venture’s Rs 2 lakh crore investment to set up semiconductor and display fabrication manufacturing unit.

The firms held talks with Tamil Nadu and other states and finally signed an agreement with Maharashtra a few days ago.

The investment would help direct and indirect employment to two lakh people. “There are reports that the firms moved to Maharashtra due to corruption, collection and commission, by the rulers,” EPS alleged, adding that the government’s attitude had rendered the future of youngsters in Tamil Nadu questionable.

Palaniswami said the responsibility of the state government was to provide land and other infrastructure to the investors but those in the industrial sector had claimed that Foxconn-Vedanta moved to Maharashtra as the rulers expected gains from the investments.

“How many industries were opened by the DMK government in its 18-year rule? Even if one or two come forward to set up units by mistake, they suffer at the hands of greedy DMK rulers or run away,” EPS said, asking the government to change its attitude as people would not remain mute spectators.
