Drunk TN youth dies after swallowing live fish

KRISHNAGIRI: A drunk youth died after he swallowed a live fish near Hosur in Krishnagiri district of Tamil Nadu on Wednesday night.
The deceased has been identified as S Vetrivel, 22, of Parvathi Nagar. He was a mason.
Vetrivel went to a lake in Therpettai area for fishing with his two friends on Wednesday evening. They consumed alcohol by the lake.
According Hosur town police, Vetrivel attempted to swallow a live fish while his friends tried to record a video.The fish got stuck in his throat.
Vetrivel’s friends rushed him to a government hospital in Hosur where doctors examined him and declared that he was “dead on arrival.”
On Thursday, a postmortem was performed and the fish was taken out of his throat. The doctors confirmed that Vetrivel was under the influence of alcohol.

Police said no video had been found relating to the incident.
“An inquiry is underway with Vetrivel’s friends if the act was performed to record a video or if it was for betting,” a police officer said.
