CHENNAI: Lawyer B William, 32, accused 2 in the September 2013 murder of neurosurgeon S D Subbiah, surrendered before a magistrate court in Saidapet on Monday. He was remanded in Puzhal prison.
William, a Kanyakumari resident whose anticipatory bail petition was rejected by the Supreme Court last week, was one of the key accused in the sensational murder.
He had been running from one court to the other to evade apprehension since then.
On Monday, he came to the XXIII metropolitan magistrate’s court in Saidapet at 10.30am accompanied by counsel, S Vasu.
Magistrate C Jayashree later remanded him in judicial custody for 15 days at Puzhal prison.
Neurosurgeon Dr Subbiah was on September 14, beaten to death in full view of the public in Raja Annamalaipuram by three men allegedly hired by William as a favour for his junior, P Basil of Nagercoil. The doctor died in hospital 10 days later.
Police arrested Dr James Satish Kumar and the three killers, Murugan, Selva Prakash and Iyyappan on January 29. Earlier, police arrested former school teacher Ponnusamy, his wife P Mary Pushpam and their sons P Basil, a lawyer, and P Boris. Police also arrested William’s aide Jesuraj, a kabaddi player, for harbouring William.
