Doctors and house surgeons are set to protest in front of the CMCH Dean's office at around 9.30am, condemning the violence against healthcare professionals.

Attack on doctors

The first incident involved a Chennai-based oncologist, Dr Balaji Jaganathan, who was critically injured after being attacked by a patient’s attendant at the Kalaignar Centenary Super-Speciality Hospital in Guindy on Wednesday morning.

Around 10.15am, the attacker, identified as Vignesh from Perungalathur, took an outpatient slip and waited to see Dr Balaji. Once inside the consultation room, he locked the door and launched a violent assault, stabbing the doctor multiple times with a kitchen knife.

Just hours later, a second incident occurred in which a psychiatrist, Dr P Hariharan, was attacked by a mentally challenged individual at Government Stanley Hospital. Dr Hariharan, 49, is a resident of Third Main Road, Villivakkam Sidco Nagar, and serves as an assistant professor in the Department of Psychiatry at Stanley Hospital, police reported.
