CHENNAI: A day after Tamil Nadu chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami and his Kerala counterpart Pinarayi Vijayan agreed to set up a committee to go into the pending river issues between the two states, former PWD minister and DMK treasurer

In a statement, Durai Murugan recalled the project history since 1960s and wanted the chief minister to be careful during talks and also before signing any agreement. "The Tamil Nadu government must take into consideration the livelihood of people in Tirupur district before signing the agreement," he said.

Durai Murugan said in the past too such committees consisting of officials from both the states had been set up but nothing had come out of them.

"I suspect the present agreement to set up a committee is only meant to delay signing an agreement on the project. Therefore, the government must see to it that the agreement on the project is signed without delay," he said.
