condition deteriorated past midnight with family members, including his son and party working president M K Stalin, his daughter Kanimozhi and his personal physician Dr Gopal arriving at his Gopalapuram residence in Chennai. On the advice of physicians treating him at the residence, Karunanidhi was shifted to Kauvery Hospital in the city for ‘advanced care’.


"M Karunanidhi’s health condition has deteriorated and he is being shifted to Kauvery Hospital here for advanced care", a doctor treating the former Tamil Nadu chief minister said.

He said Karunanidhi was critical and his BP had dropped.





On Friday evening, Stalin issued a statement appealing to partymen not to believe ‘fake news’ being circulated about his father’s health condition. He said Karunanidhi was improving and according to the doctors the intensity of the fever and infection had reduced.



On Thursday evening, the hospital issued a medical bulletin stating that there was a “slight decline” in the health of the former Tamil Nadu chief minister due to age-related problems.

The hospital bulletin had stated that Karunanidhi was being treated for fever due to

urinary tract infection

with intravenous antibiotics and fluids. He was being monitored and treated round-the-clock by a team of medical and nursing professionals who are providing hospital-level care at his home,” the release said.

On Friday, President Ram Nath Kovind, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, former PM Manmohan Singh and a host of other leaders sent get well messages.
