CHENNAI: Clashes broke out between DMK and BJP workers at St Francis Xavier Middle School polling station in Alwarpet here on Thursday morning.
The incident occurred when BJP's Tamilisai Soundarajan visited the polling station around 10.30am. Tamilisai and her team alleged that DMK had cast fake votes.
The situation continued to be volatile for half an hour despite police's attempts to calm down both sides.
The protests continued outside on the streets stalling traffic and creating a tense situation inside as followers engaged in verbal altercations.
"DMK's goondas are behind the fake votes and are behind the fighting here," said Sai Ganesh, a representative of BJP's IT cell who accompanied Tamilisai.
