Disrupt supply chains of drugs, illicit liquor: TN governor tells govt
CHENNAI: Expressing concern about the lack of adequate enforcement agencies to disrupt the supply chains of drugs and illicit liquor, Tamil Nadu governor R N Ravi pointed out that the recovery of large quantities of synthetic and semi synthetic drugs from different parts of the state confirms the widespread drug abuse in the state.
Speaking at a function hosted at Raj Bhavan on the eve of the international day against drug abuse and illicit trafficking (world drug day) on Tuesday, Ravi regretted that NIA’s investigations revealed the operation of international drug cartels. “Ignoring this grave threat will further complex the problems,” he added.
Ravi said normalcy returns every time after tragic deaths of people were reported after consuming spurious liquor while referring to the death of 59 people after consuming spurious liquor at Kallakurichi a few days ago and the death of 22 people after consuming spurious liquor in Villupuram and Chengalpattu districts in May last year.
“Many voices were raised in the wake of the incidents, but things quickly returned to normal. This is completely unacceptable,” he observed.
Ravi underscored the crucial role of the civil society in combating drug menace. He appreciated the efforts of non-profit organizations in spreading awareness on drug abuse.

limit liquor tuff rules is good, but what about adulteration & the most important fact, when the state has a free for all Goverment run Tasmac shops were not a single for sale is made & not a single bottle is sold at MRP rate. They are sold at higher than MRP. So tough rules to be brought in place. as this is the huge generation of Black money. The ED & other department are also hand in glove. Read allPost comment
