Disproportionate assets case against panchayat raj dept staff in TN: DVAC conducts searches

) on Wednesday began searches on six premises of an assistant in the rural development and panchayat raj department and his family members in

Pudukottai

in Tamil Nadu in connection with a Rs 15crore disproportionate assets case.

Teams from

DVAC Pudukottai

were carrying out searches on the premises of V Muruganandham, 47, who an assistant at the office of the assistant director (audit) of the rural development and panchayat raj department, his wife M Gandhimathi, 38 and their family members. Gandhimathi is the president of Mullankurichi village panchayat in Karambakudi union of Pudukottai district.

On Tuesday, deputy superintendent of the police (DSP), DVAC, Pudukottai G Imayavaramban booked Muruganandham and Gandhimathi for amassing wealth disproportionate to their known source of income. The DVAC valued their properties at Rs 15.73 crore and calculated the percentage of the disproportionate assets as 1260%.

The assets in possession of the two include agriculture land and bank balances, according to DVAC sources.
