Differently abled in Chennai come together for donating blood today

Inspired by the way the able-bodied came together for relief activities during the December floods, a group of differently abled in the city have decided to do their bit as well.

CHENNAI: Inspired by the way the able-bodied came together for relief activities during the December floods, a group of differently abled in the city have decided to do their bit as well.
Around 100 differently abled people will gather on the British deputy high commission premises on Saturday as part of a blood donation camp.Facilitated by the NGO, Chennai Volunteers, the camp is be ing held in association with the British deputy high commission and the honorary consulate of Ireland, supported by members of the December 03 Movement Society for the Disabled.

All donations will be handed over to the Jeevan Blood Bank & Research Centre.
“The disabled are usually only looked at as people in need of charity and help. Through this camp, we want to show that the disabled too can contribute to the welfare of society ,“ says Deepak Nathan, president of the society for the disabled, a confluence of associations of people with disabilities.
“It is extraordinary that people who are leading a challenged life are ready to help in any way they can,“ says Rajeev Mecheri, Irish Honorary Consul for Ireland in Chennai.
The camp, to be held between 1 pm and 6pm is open to everyone, says Mecheri. Those wishing to donate must carry a government approved ID card.
