Dharmapuri bus burning: Release of three men from jail gives hope to life convicts in Rajiv Gandhi assignation case
CHENNAI: A day after three life convicts in the
“We welcome the release of the three. I am also very confident that the TN government will release us,” said Murugan’s counsel Pugalenthi quoting him as saying. Murugan is undergoing life imprisonment in Vellore Central Prison for Men.
Pugalenthi met Murugan and Nalini Sriharan on Tuesday.
Nalini expressed happiness over the release of the three life convicts in the Dharmapuri bus burning case. She hoped that that the governor would soon act upon the government’s recommendations to release them.
The cabinet of the TN government passed a resolution on September 9 to release the seven life convicts in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case under the provision of Article 161 of the constitution. The recommendation along with the cabinet’s decision was forwarded to governor Banwarilal Purohit on the following day.
The governor is yet to take call on the cabinet’s decision. In the meantime, the governor gave his consent to release the three life convicts - Nedu (alias) A Neduchezhiyan, Madhu (alias) G Ravindran and C Muniyappan – in the 2000 bus burning case and some other prisoners to mark the celebration of birth centenary of M G Ramachandran.
Nalini donates Rs 1,000
Nalini donated Rs 1,000 to CM Public Relief Fund to help people affected by cyclone Gaja. She contributed the money from her wage that she earned by working in the prison industry in the Special Prison for Women.
Nalini gave a letter to the superintendent of prison to hand over Rs 1,000 from her prisoner cash property, an account created for the prisoners to keep their earnings in prison industries, to the Chief Minister Public Relief Fund, said Pugalenthi.
