In his address the governor lauded efforts made by students and quoted Nelson Mandela, "If you talk to a man in a language he understands, that goes to his head. If you talk to him in his language it goes to his heart."

Expressing his love for Tamil, Purohit said, "During my tenure here in Tamil Nadu I have developed a strong attachment to and love for Tamil. It is a classical language and its fine aspects have created a lasting impression on me."

Viswanathan, in his address, said even as a land of 19,500 languages, no other country is as united as India. "There are still many more languages to be included in the existing constitutional languages list. I also feel that the need of the hour is for all state governments to implement the

three-language formula

. Moreover, youngsters of today have an edge over others for quality education and great opportunities to learn many languages and shape their future."
