Superintendent of police (SP) of Kanyakumari district M Durai said the deceased included a woman.

M Rajendran, 45, of Karthigaivadali, was collecting coconuts from a grove when a coconut tree fell on him around 8.30am. The Rajakkamangalam police retrieved his body and sent it for postmortem.

Kumaresan,50, of Keezha Palkinatranvilai died when a coconut tree fell on him while he was collecting coconuts in a grove at Sivaselvapuram around 10.50am. The Ethamozhi police registered a case and were investigating.



C Saraswathi,60, of Manalivilai near Mandaikadu died when a coconut tree fell on her as she stepped out of her house. The Mandaikadu police retrieved her body and sent it for postmortem.

A Alexander (55) of Kamaraj Nagar in Parakkundru died when a banyan tree fell on his house. Police said Alexander was taking rest in his house when the tree fell on the asbestos roof of his house.

The SP said uprooted trees disrupted traffic on all the state and national highways in the district in the morning. Traffic was restored by noon.
