Cyclone Burevi: Centre will provide all possible support to Tamil Nadu, PM Modi says

CHENNAI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday telephoned Tamil Nadu chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami and inquired him about the situation arising out of cyclone Burevi. The chief minister apprised the PM of the precautionary measures taken by the state government.
Modi tweeted, “We discussed the conditions prevailing in parts of the state due to cyclone Burevi. Centre will provide all possible support to Tamil Nadu.” The Prime Minister said that he prayed for the well-being and safety of those living in the areas affected.
An official release from the state government said the Prime Minister had congratulated the chief minister and the state government for reducing the loss of human lives by taking precautionary and rescue measures during cyclone Nivar and bringing the state back to normalcy speedily.
The chief minister informed that he held a review meeting with the officers of all concerned departments on Tuesday for cyclone preparedness and gave detailed instructions. Senior IAS officers had been deputed to the districts likely to be affected by the cyclone to monitor the safety measures taken by the administration.
“Fishermen were told not to venture into the sea. Following the dissemination of messages to fishermen, who had already set out to sea, 473 mechanised boats returned to the shore safely,” Palaniswami said.
During his telephonic conversation with Modi, the chief minister also recalled the instructions given to evacuate people from low lying areas and unsafe buildings to the government relief camps. Ten teams of the National Disaster Response Force were on standby in Kanyakumari (2), Tirunelveli (3), Tuticorin (2) and Ramanathapuram (3). The state and district control rooms functioning round-the-clock were directed to have additional workforce, the release said.
